Trumpeters Landing

This 104-unit condominium development is so named for the elegant trumpeter swans, which land in the nearby estuary. Four timber-framed buildings, each containing 26 single-strata units, are oriented south east toward the estuary.

The challenge was to provide an experience of West Coast living to appeal to prairie purchasers.

Rich landscaping details include a dry creek bed winding through the buildings, providing drainage and beauty. A waterfall in the centre of the four buildings admits daylight into the parking garage underneath.

West Coast architectural details include use of materials like Hardiplank and heavy timber wood-framed soffits in combination with the concrete and brick. Individual units have deck ceilings constructed of fir siding, reflecting the timber in the entryways and in the finish of the parking garage’s water and light well. The colours—off-white, terracotta and grey sage—reinforce the coastal style.

Rain-screen board-and-batten construction prevents mould and water ingress and promotes durability.
